What’s my favorite type of meal? One that involves someone else doing the cooking, the dishes, and everyone in our family is satisfied with their choice of meal. I’m pretty sure, actually, that’s a lot of folks’ favorite type of meal. I mean, a family of four can create an overflowing sinkf of dishes from a simple dinner! As Aubrey grows, we’re learning what her likes are and we already know pizza is at the top of her list for food. When we were invited to try out the new Pieology that is celebrating their grand opening Tuesday, July 29th in Santa Clarita Valley, I was wondering what she’d like if she had free reign to make her own pizza.
Selfies after we choose our toppings!
The stations at Pieology start with the sauce for your crust (including the amazing Herb Butter to put on with your marinara!), then the cheeses (four kinds), meats, veggies, and additional toppings once it’s been baked. I started Aubrey off with marinara and cheese. I held her while I talked her through some options. She did not want sausage, meatball or bacon. Actually she passed all the meats and went for pineapple. And then, as we were about to walk away, she pointed to the sliced black olives and said And I want some of those black things too. Uhhh, ok? So they added some on top and off it went to bake.
Poor Luke. He had to settle with the plastic sign for his dinner. KIDDING!! We’re still working on his different foods and dairy is hit or miss. So we brought him food, but he did enjoy a few nibbles of my crust.
I was trying to keep her preoccupied while her pizza cooled, but that only worked for a brief moment. I just did the typical mom thing, said just blow on it, it’s hot, be careful and let her enjoy her creation. She picked most the olives off and ate them while I enjoyed my pizza.
I started with their number 3 creation (they have 7 pre-designed pizzas) which included red sauce, Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, chicken, red onion, cilantro, and bbq sauce. I also added artichoke hearts and more bbq sauce and I snuck a few of Aubrey’s pineapples on top. Definitely adding that next time! The herb butter adds just a smidge more flavor. I definitely recommend it!
So back to the grand opening. The owner, Rogelio, was a delight to speak with. He just moved up to our town and as a cyclist, loves all the paths we have connecting all the different parts of our cities. One of my favorite things too! With their grand opening, the first 50 pizzas are free (they open at 11am) and throughout the entire day, 25% of sales will be donated to SCV Youth Project – a charity he selected. He explained a bit on why this charity, and it’s nice to have a new person in our community already feel so invested in helping our youth out.
The staff was super polite and pointed out some little details in the shop. One thing I loved seeing in the Granada Hills was the huge quote wall.
Rogelio also said it’s on the back side of some of their signage in the restaurant as well. Always something to keep your attention. So please drop by during their grand opening, and after! I’m sure it’ll be a bit crazy Tuesday. Don’t be afraid to add something new to your pizza!!! Oh and all pizzas are $7.95, no matter what you pile on!
