I used to LOVE reading. But when I was in the newborn phase with Aubrey, the marathon nursing sessions were spent with my DVR. I realized, a bit later, that it had been forever since I read a book. When she was around a year old, I got a book to review, Televenge, and it ignited my passion for reading. But then I had Luke, and while his nursing sessions were shorter, I spent more of them in bed late at night while everyone was sleeping. So I asked for a Kindle and got one for my birthday. It has changed my life. I LOVE READING AGAIN! Yes, that deserves caps.
Since my Kindle, I’ve read some Young Adult books about vampires, a faith based book, well, more than one of those, and light hearted ones too. And then on my way to a blogger event, this one at Boho Upcycle, Carolyn shared with me her book club book, Heartbreak Cake, by Cindy Arora. Cindy is Crissy’s sister (owner of Boho Upcycle) and I met her at that event. Also turns out our kids are EXACTLY the same age! Aubrey and her son share a birth day & year! So crazy!
So naturally, once Carolyn told me she was having her book club meet up at A Sweet Design in Granada Hills and Cindy would be there, I had to invite myself. LOL. I forgot to grab the book from Carolyn to read BUT I got it that night and read it and loved it. Sure, I found out what happened at the book club meeting at the end of the book, but it was amazing to hear how Cindy created the characters, little bits of her real life mixed in to the story, and hear all of Carolyn’s book buddies gush about who they envisioned each character to be in real life (well, what actors would play them). Actually Cindy has a Pinterest board of whom she envisions to play the roles!
Having Joeleen teach the ladies how to pipe and decorate cupcakes was (as cliche as it sounds) icing on the cake. I just enjoyed eating them, and the macarons, and listening to everyone speak. And take photos. Cuz that’s what I love to do 🙂
Thank you Cindy, Carolyn, Joeleen, and all of Carolyn’s book buddies for letting me crash! You can purchase the book here!
And if you wanting to know about the book – it’s wonderful! A great read, a bit of sass along with the heartbreak story. And be sure to read it with a side of cake. Or croissant, or donuts, or cronuts, or or or. you get the idea 🙂
