Happy Mother’s day to me! Well, weekend, I should really say. I was shocked by how awesome Jon was this weekend to me 🙂 It started Saturday night, after a quick trip to my dad’s (more on that later) and coming home to Jon popping some break-and-bake cookies in the oven for us, and then coming out with a gift! Being pregnant during Mother’s Day is sort of a “do we, don’t we” celebrate kind of thing. I know that the whole point of Mother’s Day is to celebrate your mom, thank her for raising you, nurturing you, all that sort of fun stuff. While my baby can’t actually thank me (and won’t be able to talk next year so basically for the next few years…) I am still growing and nurturing s/he.
So I was presented with 2 presents, topped with a crown made out of paper (he’s crafty, I think I’m rubbing off on him!). The card made me cry. So damn sweet. I got a gift certificate for a mani/pedi because “in a few months I won’t be able to see my feet or reach them” and then also a cute picture frame to keep with our baby’s first pic. He said the women at Hallmark were awesome trying to show him different things. And after passing up an incredibly adorable stuffed giraffe, he realized the frame is much more of a keepsake for me.
Sunday morning, when I got out of the shower, Jon was ready with my next treat – breakfast! He ran out and got donuts and brought them to me with a cup of OJ. He really does know the way to this pregnant girl’s heart 🙂 We then headed off to Church, then to my Mom’s to celebrate the day, and then to his family’s to celebrate as well.
But ya’ll, I got a confession.
We’ve been keeping a secret……
WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!!!!!!
I am SO SORRY to every single friend that I’ve lied to (aka…Michele, Jen, TKN, Everyone at Danielle’s shower) but we had to! We did find out last Thursday that we’re TEAM PINK! We wanted to share with our moms & family the news first…..So we did it in a fun way since we weren’t really able to have the same sort of surprise for when we found out we were pregnant.
We purchased onesies for each set of parents (Dodgers for my dad & step-mom, Grandma & Grandpa for jon’s folks, and that cute pink one you see up there for my momma) and wrapped them up. Since we knew we weren’t going to be able to visit my dad & stepmom on Mother’s day, we went over there Saturday night for dinner and after my stepmom opened her gift, we gave them one more each. There was some confusion right away. I think they thought it was for my little sister Nina. But when I said “I’m sorry we had to lie to you” it clicked in my stepmom’s head and she got all excited. My dad we had to tell. But everyone was thrilled!!!
My mom opened up the box and said “is this a pink onesie!?” and then started her happy tears and we got hugs from all the family there. Jon’s mom opened up the onesie and was like “awww” and i said “what’s it look like it’s for?” and she said IT’S PINK! and then her and Lauryn screamed with excitement!
It was so great to share this news with everyone in person. So much better than on the phone. We still can’t believe we’ll be having a little girl this October but we’re so thrilled! It’s so much better calling her a “her” vs an “it” lol.
So, hopefully you’re not too mad 🙂
