I was invited to attend a training lunch for complimentary food & drink prior to the Northridge, CA opening. I was not required to post a review, but I love to share my honest opinions!
Now Open – Bonefish Grill – 9301 N. Tampa Ave, Northridge, CA
One of the very best things of having a large family is hearing about great new ventures their friends & classmates are diving in to. One recent one is a friend to my cousin, Christy, who was opening up a restaurant and was inviting family & friends to try the food & drink while his staff was undergoing intense training prior to the official grand opening. She connected me with Greg Howard, and I went with Carolyn (my ultra amazing partner with SoCal Lady Bloggers) to try it out!
Bonefish Grill is on the north end of the mall located just off Plummer. There is plenty of parking by the restaurant and there is ample seating inside between their bar, dining room, and outside covered patio.
We met Greg, who invested in this location and runs it. Instead of having a traditional general manager running the restaurant, his investment offers opportunity for him to grow the restaurant and have ownership into the establishment instead of just taking home a paycheck and calling it a day. The store opening had 25 trainers sent in from all over the US to help Greg’s team in the kitchen, behind the bar, and on the floor. Our waiter was offered encouragement and some tips after each visit around the tables. It was great seeing this behind the scenes training. Working in retail for numerous years, I know how invaluable such one-on-one training is in the long run!
This – THIS is their drink menu. What can I get you?? (PS that La Crema Pinot Noir is AMAZING. Order that when you visit!)
For my meal, I chose the Spiked Blackberry Elixir to go along with my Bang Bang Shrimp Po Boy. The cocktail is created with fresh blackberries, Malibu rum, coconut water, and is lightly sweetened with a hint of fresh mint. I loved it. I only drank half of it because it was a doozy of a cocktail! I am not a super sweet person, and this had just enough. And I love Malibu rum!
When my sandwich arrived, I just stared in awe at it. And then wondered – how the heck do you eat this? I was very lady like (ha!) and used a fork & knife. The crispy shrimp are tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce (delicious) with lettuce, tomato & Asian cucumbers. I don’t think I’ve ever had Asian cucumbers, but I almost asked for a side of it. They were the perfect balance to the crispy spicy shrimp. The Parmesan fries were also the perfect side. This lunch was $9.90 – filling and a great value!
You can read all about Carolyn’s lunch here, but she ordered the Blood Orange Paloma (Sauza Hornitos tequila, Solerno blood orange liqueur, fresh grapefruit and hint of lime) and for lunch chose Lily’s Salmon. Her lunch was $14.90. Our cocktails were under $12 total!
And – their brunch. I did ask Greg about it. They have a special menu which includes a few options of Eggs Benedict (Jon’s favorite!), a creme brulee french toast (Aubrey would love this!) and for under $20 you can pick an entree and have unlimited bubbly beverages. Now that’s my kind of brunch!
Few tidbits – during the week (Mon-Thurs) they are open for Lunch from 11-2 and resume for Dinner 4-10:30. Friday & Saturday they are open 11-11:30 and Sunday 11-10 (brunch is 11-2). They are kid friendly, but I think Jon and I might have to try out the brunch kid-free 🙂 This location is one modeled after the new modern decor and is coined Polished Casual. Casual restaurant pricing, but with a polished feel. I think that’s the perfect way to explain it.
So please stop by, and feel free to give a friendly hello to Greg!
