Televenge {book review & giveaway}

I am a part of an awesome group of women bloggers, based in So Cal.  We are the SoCal Lady Bloggers and meet monthly to chat, trade cards, but build relationships.  I went to my first gathering last month and had a lot of fun meeting other woman who have the same passion for blogging, in completely different realms of expertise.  I got in contact with someone through Romina to receive Televenge for review & a giveaway. I told them that it might take me a bit to read, as we were heading in to the holidays and the book is a bit long.  Boy was I wrong.

From the start, the book keeps you captivated. The voice of the writer changes throughout chapters but you always know who’s writing.  It spans almost 20 years from start to finish and it’s truly captivating.  Here’s a summary of the book, written by Pamela King Cable:

Televenge

Televenge is an entertaining suspense  / thriller.  It charts the life of Andie Oliver, a faithful woman to God, to her handsome husband Joe, and to televangelist Reverend Calvin Autry, a Godfather of holy men.  Raised to be subservient and submissive in the tradition of he Bible-belt South of the 1970’s, she becomes a prisoner of that tradition.  Her dream of children, home, and marriage falls apart when the ministry team hires Joe.  Violence, debauchery, and infidelity ensue, and Andie is entangled in scandal.  She must evade ruthless adversaries who will go to any length to protect their pastor.  Andie courageously battles the darkest side of televangelism, forever changing a nation of evangelicals.

At some points, the book is dark, and hard to read. More difficult to imagine a life like the one Andie leads (is dealt?).  But the characters are well developed (even the ones you’re supposed to hate) and I was really pleased with how the book ended.  It was one of my first faith-based thriller books and I honestly couldn’t tell much difference from any other thriller I’ve read.  The true faith part is built into the story line and character’s traits.

I have a copy of the book to giveaway – your choice of either an e-reader version or an actual hard copy of the book!  Please see the rafflecopter information below (might take a moment to load, and some smartphones might not load it properly).  If you don’t win, I hope you do purchase and read the book! It’s really REALLY wonderful!
