Seasonal Menu at Bonefish Grill

I received a gift certificate to dine and share my experience with the new seasonal menu options at Bonefish Grill in Valencia.  Opinions are mine (and my friend’s, since she came with!)

Shrimp Ceviche

Chilled bay scallops, marinated shrimp, fish, fresh pineapple, coconut, cilantro and guacamole, seasoned crisps for dipping.

Since I’m practically ready to give birth at almost any minute of any day, I’m trying to get all the things I’ve been meaning to do, done.   One of the items on the agenda was going out with my friend Maria to do my post-baby-booze-shopping trip to stock up on some wine & champagne to enjoy after giving birth.  We did it when I was due with Luke and we had a lot of fun. But this time, our schedules don’t allow for as much time since she’s a full time teacher and we’re smack dab in the middle of the school year for her.

So we skipped the booze shopping (don’t worry – I stocked up on my own) and headed to try the seasonal menu at Bonefish Grill.  Santa Clarita has been popping up restaurants here and there and it was REALLY nice seeing how packed it was for a Wednesday night.  Good places with great quality food are hit and miss around here.  Some folks want more of a family atmosphere with inexpensive dining options, while others want to be treated to a gourmet meal and want higher quality menu choices.

Bonefish Grill is a bit of both.  There’s some amazing quality menu items, but they also have great lunch specials and it is a kid friendly restaurant.  In fact there were a few families dining while Maria and I were there.

The first thing Maria and I grabbed were beverages.  I told her she had to indulge in a specialty cocktail since I could not.

Ocean Trust Tropic Heat Martini - bonefish grill

Ocean Trust Tropic Heat Martini

Absolut vodka house-infused with pineapples, freshly muddled mango, lemon juice + a thin slice of jalapeño. $1 is donated to Ocean Trust for each one sold. Visit OceanTrust.org.

All of the bar drinks use fresh fruit and it really shows. I did take a tiny sip and this was so good. I think post-baby I need to go back and sample it for myself. Happy hour anyone?  I chose the Blackberry Smash that is alcohol free and so refreshing.  I actually had two.  Whoops 🙂

While we looked over the menu, we ordered their shrimp ceviche and those crackers were so good with it.  They had a bit of seasoning that added a nice kick.  I’ve only had ceviche a few times in my life but I’m really growing to love the flavors. I’ve always loved seafood but was nervous about the citrus that they’re created in.  I’m glad I got over that because it’s so good.

Oscar Mahi Mahi with pumpkin ravioli - Bonefish Grill

Oscar Mahi Mahi

Grilled, topped with lump crab, asparagus, lemon butter sauce, served with choice of side + spaghetti squash

Maria and I both chose the seasonal menu options for our dishes.  I selected the Oscar Mahi Mahi and added a premium side of the pumpkin ravioli.  I’ve only had pumpkin ravioli once at a small mom & pop restaurant up here (actually, Jon ordered it but I loved it) and was hoping for the same experience.  Sadly, I did not like their version.  I’m a savory kind of gal when it comes to dinner and the puree inside was more sweet.  Maria suggested they bread it, deep fry it and serve it a la mode! Great idea!

The fish, though, was amazing and I ate up every last bite.

Rhea's Rockfish - Bonefish Grill

Rhea’s Rockfish

Lean, mild, sweet flavor with a nutty accent, medium to firm texture wood-grilled + topped with sautéed spinach, lump crab, lime tomato garlic sauce

Maria ordered her entree with the premium side of Truffle Mac n Cheese. HOLY COW THAT WAS AMAZING.  I took the leftovers home and it tasted so good the next day.  Luke even tried a bite and enjoyed it. I was sort of surprised since he traditionally only likes the yellow box variety 🙂

And NO meal at Bonefish is complete without my favorite – Doughnuts.

Doughnuts

Three warm croissant-like doughnuts, tossed in cinnamon sugar. Served with sea salt caramel and chocolate sauce.

Oh man, I’ll literally just eat the Sea Salt Caramel sauce by itself.  And in full disclosure, I was in so much pain when I got home from eating so much.  Going out to enjoy a good meal at 37 weeks pregnant is no easy task.  But I’m glad to say I did it, and I survived!  There are so many drinks I want to try after I have this baby (and their wine selection is amazing!) I’ll be going back. I’ll skip dinner, order an appetizer and enjoy dessert 🙂

Thank you Bonefish Grill for hosting Maria and I!
