NaBloPoMo – Sparkle

For the entire month of February, I will be participating in NaBloPoMo – National Blog Posting Month – where I write a post a day.

So, yesterday I wrote this post about my business, Bling Diva Designs. Today, I checked my email that receives notifications about comments on the blog, and saw one that made me squeal.  There was a special order that I created last summer. I’m not going to write much details here because I’m going to be honest on some things, but you can see the post I wrote on my biz blog here.   A blinged out appliance. Seriously, almost ten THOUSAND crystals covered it.  It was for someone who has their own tv show.  I was asked to do it for an insanely cheap price in trade for credit that I did it on their show.  Only, it didn’t make it on their show. Instead it’s been on a few talk shows and each time I get saddened that I’m not mentioned. I know now that it was the price I paid. I didn’t let it sadden me too much. I spun it best I could. I wrote a blog post, talking about it, and every time  it comes on tv I make sure to tweet the hell out of it.  My friends have been amazing and comment with my company name.  I made the best I could out of a sour situation.  It’s hard for us small business folks.  We work really hard, sometimes undervalue ourselves for a good deal. And sometimes it bites us in the ass.

But today was a good day. The tv show it was on – the host LOVED it. She raved about it a few times (even if she did call it a blender vs a mixer).  By 9am I had over 800 hits on my blog – people finding the post through search on search engines.  At 2pm it hit 1200. This afternoon it’s at 1500.  I’ve gotten emails and phone calls about it.  I really really enjoyed working on that piece. I just wish credit was given where it was due.

I am so bummed that they didn’t mention you by name – it almost felt like it was on purpose with Kelly going on and on about it – it would have been so easy for them to just say it was made by Bling Diva! Regardless, I’m so happy that people are finding your company anyway, and hopefully this helps BDD take off into a full time business, you deserve it!

Stay positive, Melissa. You know that these things have a way of working out (especially when you work as hard as you do). You will do much more for your company by taking the high road than by letting it get you down. Take what you’ve learned and help it to make you stronger.
