Tuesday night was a very hard night. I posted this on Instagram and I know many moms have had the same thought at some point or another:
It was a really rough night. And a really rough morning. Will Luke ever sleep more than 4 hours at a time? Hope it’s not when pigs fly.
So when it came time to pick up Luke, instead of driving there, I decided to walk and get some fresh air. I was grateful that mid-day it was warm but a nice breeze was circling around me. My in-laws live just over a half mile away from our house, which offers up great opportunities like this. I’m sure I looked funny pushing the empty stroller. But, whatevs. I had to make a quick drop to Aubrey’s preschool (also just around the corner) because this morning I forgot to pack her more Pull-Ups.
I threw them in the basket and went on my way. I had my Spotify blaring on my iPhone and just enjoyed the 10 minute walk in quiet. Well, except for my music. I’ve not owned a double-bar handle stroller before. I’ve heard how it can be more difficult to push one handed than the types with one bar across to push. But I tried walking (pushing empty) and it felt about the same as my single bar one I use as well. The Maxi-Cosi Kaia is a bit lighter than my City Select, but folds up SO much smaller. I have been keeping it in my car for quick trips! Like this one to Target last week!
Just taking our new #maxicosi #kaia for a spin at our favorite store! Oh. And buying him boy sippy cups
But back to my walk alone. When I picked up Luke, we took the long way home. I turned Spotify down real low, and we just walked and enjoyed the birds chirping, Luke’s babbling, and gazing around the neighborhood.
I fit the entire Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy backpack in the bottom undercarriage. I just had to unsnap the front area to fit it in easily.
Since we are currently renting, I always like to check out the many styles of homes in our area to see what I like to narrow down our future search for our forever home. We definitely want a one story, and who doesn’t love a porch? A lot of the homes where we live are used for filming and there was a huge zombie movie filmed about 2 months ago all in this area, across a few different properties.
I sometimes wonder if folks still hang out on the front porch like they seem to do back in the day in film. Would Jon and I hang out on ours? Or would we retreat to the backyard and let the kids play there? On this walk, Luke didn’t fall asleep. But I bet if I pushed him around longer, and reclined the seat all the way back, he’d pass out in an instant. Who doesn’t like to fall asleep with the sounds of nature filling your ears? The Kaia stroller in this pattern (Bohemian Blue) has a removable striped seat cover that reveals an even more neutral fabric. Teal is one of my favorite colors, in case you didn’t notice (with this site!).
By time we made it home, I felt so much better. It seems like such a simple thing – to get out, experience nature. Sometimes (I know from my experience) it just seems to be “too much work” to spend a bit of time outside. But you know what? If you make the time, it will carry over into your entire well-being and improve your spirits. I’m sure there’s research to back up my claim. So take a break and head outside!
