When Jon signed up to head back to school to earn his MBA – he was presented with some really cool opportunities – two international trips that would span 2-3 weeks each time. When he enrolled, Luke was almost one and Aubrey was almost 3. The first big trip to Germany seemed a lifetime away. But, as we all know, time flies when you’re having fun (or buying a home, or having a third kid…). The conclusion of our summer meant the start of his first trip and our first big round of goodbyes to Daddy for awhile. On one of our many trips to Walmart, CloudPets™ were visible on our way out. The kids saw something cute and fluffy, and I saw something more – an opportunity to keep Daddy close while he would be so far away.
On the box is the explanation that all you need to keep family close is the CloudPets™ animal, 3 AA batteries, and 2 smart phones. Luke and Aubrey worked together to pick the Kitty to bring home and we had them take turns holding it on the car ride home. Luckily our Walmart isn’t far since they both wanted it at the same time (of course!)
Since Jon would be gone, my phone was set up as the primary to work with Kitty via bluetooth. We each downloaded the free app and set up our names. Since my phone was the primary one, I am the only one able to select family who can send and receive messages with the kids. Then, we started playing around with the recordings.
Jon can record a message and send to us. I receive a notification on my phone via the free app, and then can transmit it to Kitty. The kids can hit the blue paw to play his message. And when we want to send him a bit of love, we hit the red paw to record. It goes to my phone, and then I can send it off to Jon. He will get his own notification and can hear the voices of Aubrey and Luke.
Kitty has been sleeping out in our living room every night so the kids don’t argue over who gets to sleep with it. Instead, our cat Butters gets to enjoy the company of Kitty. This new one-of-a-kind product can really help bridge the distance of business trips, military service men & women, and even Grandma & Grandpa!
I know Kitty will get a lot of use when Jon is out of the country. When he’s home with us, there are other fun things the Kitty can do with the free app. It can play lullabies and there’s even a memory game with farm animals! When Jon heads back out on another trip, we’ll be able to use the messaging again and by then, he’ll have 3 little ones to send messages to!
For this upcoming trip, I might even sneak in a message to Jon while he’s gone. It’s nice when technology comes along to help our little ones hear their Daddy when he’s so far away! It’s hard explaining distance to them.
And I captured this moment with Jon explaining to Aubrey about him having to go, and what she can expect.
