If you have multiple kids, you start to realize the importance of spending quality one-on-one time with each of them. Jon has some activities he does with Luke (like, getting hair cuts. Mainly cuz Luke cries if I go) and I like to have some girlie time with Aubrey. We went and got her a fancy hair cut at a real salon a few weeks ago, and then recently we went on a movie date. Summer brings on hot temps, but also gorgeous weather. Many local parks have music or movies in the park and we ventured down to Century City to visit Street Food Cinema’s presentation of Clueless. It’s been TWENTY years since that movie came out. Crazy!
It was SO NICE to escape from the 106* temp to end up at 86* with a breeze. We got there a bit early (never know about LA traffic!) and we grabbed a seat on a comfy couch, in the shade, and got a chance to have a treat before our dinner. At Street Food Cinema – there are tons of food trucks, a band, and later on a movie. Breyers Gelato Indulgences was a featured vendor and were passing out some of their types of Gelatos to all the attendees. Aubrey picked out strawberry (truffle) and I had chocolate caramel.
Once the food trucks opened, we found a pizza vendor for Aubrey and I found a cuban vendor for me. I had to wait way too long for them to open, but I’m happy to report the wait was worth it with the food!
We had a picnic on the grass while the band warmed up. Once they started playing, the pizza was basically history since all she wanted to do was jump and dance all over the place. I wasn’t sure how she would do with the whole night so we also had a back-up plan for entertainment for her. These items came in handy once the band finished playing and in the downtime until the movie started.
We had some different books, markers, crayons, and the iPad. That was my last resort to save for when the movie was playing since I knew it would be too dark for anything else. Aubrey drew me a rainbow with her markers and then asked me to write out the names of everyone in our family. She picked out the color for each name. I’m glad she didn’t ask about the name for this third baby, since we all know how well that is going.
We also had a great experience with her first uses of the port-a-potties. She called them her little house and they had a baby potty and everything. (for the record, it was actually the urinal). We had 5 trips there and I was feeling it the next day. Once night hit, I told her it was FINALLY time for the movie. We were actually on our way back from the potty when the opening credits started. I’ve never done a movie in a park and it was pretty awesome to just enjoy some of nature with a movie I loved so much in high school.
She sat through all the previews and a bit of the beginning of the movie. Eventually, she was getting restless and bored so I put on her own movie on the iPad. I got to watch a bit more of the film, and then realized what time it was. I wanted to stay but knew that with the drive, I better get us on the road.
On our way out, had 2 funny stories to share with you. One was that the lovely folks at Breyers sent us off with a carton of each flavor. Aubrey peered into the bag and looked up at the woman and said Did you put STRAWBERRY in there??? That was apparently her favorite. Then, I told her to say bye to one of my blogger friends. Apparently she didn’t know what I said and instead did this.
I laughed so hard. She said bye to the Gelatos (and eventually to my friend). We got in the car and she was passed out before we even hit the main street.
It was fun spending time with this littler girl on our Date Night. I know once this third baby comes, it’ll be more challenging to have time to do things like this. But I’m super excited to see how much fun she has with her new little baby brother or sister.
