How To Wear Red Lips - DIY Sugar Scrub & Colgate Optic White

I’m not sure when, but somewhere along my adulthood path I wanted to wear red lipstick.  Not all the time, but I knew it would be something nice to have for date night.  I grabbed some different drug store brands, but nothing really worked well. The main reason? I felt like my teeth looked so yellow.  Instead of giving up the dark colored drinks, I just gave up on the red lipstick idea.  Then, during the VIP event for the Lifestyle Bloggers Conference, we held it at Besame Cosmetics in Burbank, CA.  After everything was set up, and the party was buzzing, I ventured over to the counter to work on finding a red lipstick.  They found it for me – Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Red Velvet.  This lipstick is a dream. Not to mention, 3 other ladies all bought the same shade – and all 4 of us have different skin tones.  I am betting if you buy that, you won’t regret it.

Oh and one thing I learned from reading blogs is that you must exfoliate your lips in order to have a smooth application. I made a quick scrub and the recipe is at the bottom. Makes a great gift! Maybe pair it up with the lipstick!

But, back to the teeth.  I know I shouldn’t care, but it does bother me. I’ve looked in to professional whitening but the price tag holds me back.  I don’t want white white teeth, I just want a few shades whiter to feel less self-conscious.  I received the Colgate Optic White  set – toothpaste, mouthwash, and whitening pen – to try out.

I used it for a few days straight and am here to provide you with my feedback.  The toothpaste was great – I could tell it had a whitening taste to it vs the regular mint kind we usually use.  I had no problem using this on a daily basis for almost 2 weeks.  The mouthwash was a different story.  I know it was cleaning, but I’m a wuss and can only tolerate about 20 seconds for any type of rinse.  After that I would apply the pen and leave it on while getting ready (about 5-10 minutes).  I don’t know if I put too much on at a time, but I would have to brush my teeth when I was done to feel clean and remove it all.  After the 3 steps, my teeth felt really clean & smooth.  I think the taste could be better on the mouthwash, but hey – it’s mouthwash. I’ve not really had much experience with a great tasting one.

After using this for a few days, I feel like my teeth seem a bit brighter. But I tried taking before and after pics and failed miserably. I can’t get the exact same lighting as the first set so everything looks off.  But, based on how I feel, I like it.  I’m going to keep using the pen to brighten things up.  All 3 items can be purchased for under $25 at Target, Soap.com and a few other drug stores.

DIY Lip Scrub recipe

In a food processor (mini works just fine!) add 1/2 cup white granulated sugar, 10-12 dried out chocolate mint leaves and 2 tsp liquid coconut oil (if it’s at room temp, it should liquify. or defrost for a few seconds in your microwave).  Pulse until all the leaves are ground up and the oil is mixed in. Store in airtight container.

Hi Melissa. I feel the same way about the mouthwash, it could taste better. I’ve tried the toothpaste and pen and really like the toothpaste.

That red looks great on you! I’ve always wanted to wear red lipstick, but I’ve never felt brave enough to try it. Maybe I just need the right red?
