Adding Handmade Touches – Boho Upcycle { Atwater Village, CA }

SoCal Lady Bloggers was invited by Boho Upcycle for an in-shop craft workshop and I’d like to share my experience!

Growing up my house was filled with handmade items.  My mom was a crafter and created themed wreaths for our friends & family and eventually ventured to craft shows to sell to strangers.  My dad even created a workbench that would “hide” in the rafters of the garage when not in use.  Crafting is in my blood – which helped create Bling Diva Designs. I don’t have as much opportunity to work on pretty things at home, so when Boho Upcycle invited some of the SoCal Lady Bloggers for an afternoon workshop, I jumped at the chance.

Boho Upcycle is the dream spot created by owner Krissy Arora and is located in Atwater Village amongst a lovely stretch of unique places to shop, dine, and play at.  Inside the boutique there is color everywhere! Oh, and furniture on the walls. Decorative & practical! (well, in terms of selling space, not functional).

Our workshop centered around creating 2 mason jars with 2 types of paint – Chalk Paint ( by CeCe Caldwell) and Milk Paint (by Miss Mustard Seeds).  Krissy explained each one, and the bottom line – both are extremely safe and non-toxic. Great projects to do with your (older) kids!!

At the end of each painting piece, wax is applied to seal in the paint.  In addition, you can add fun enhancers such as this metallic wax!

Visit Boho Upcycle’s website to see what workshops are coming up.  Krissy is also famous for her furniture painting and re-upholstering.  There are workshops set up to teach this to you as well!  The paints vary in price but consider around $50 total for projects that can cover up to 2 very large pieces of furniture (or a million mason jars! <– exaggeration) They are also active on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest & Instagram!
